Prof. Marcin Sajdak visits Tsinghua University

From late September to late October 2026, Prof. Marcin Sajdak of the Silesian University of Technology spent one month at the Department of Energy and Power Engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing. The visit was carried out as part of the CUPOLA project, “Carbon-neutral pathways of recycling marine plastic waste” (Grant Agreement No. 101086071). He was hosted by Prof. Zexian Tang and his research team.

The visit provided an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the department, its research facilities and the team’s working methods. There were also discussions on shared scientific interests. Meetings and discussions with Prof. Tang and his colleagues provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and examine the challenges of plastics recycling from various perspectives.

An important part of the visit was interacting with younger members of the team, including PhD students. The exchange of knowledge between researchers at different stages of their careers is one of the main objectives of the CUPOLA project.

Professor Sajdak also learnt about the history of the faculty, one of the oldest centres for energy engineering in China.

The visit strengthened ties between the Silesian University of Technology and Tsinghua University and paved the way for further collaboration, not only within the CUPOLA project, but also through future exchanges and joint research initiatives. We would like to thank Prof. Zexian Tang and his team for their hospitality and warm welcome.
